The College offers specialist residency (fellowship) programmes across seven faculties, each running to a minimum of four years and leading to the FNCO award.
Entry to the College is by the Primary Examination, which establishes that the candidate holds the foundational knowledge required to begin specialist residency.
Structured coursework in the core subjects of the chosen specialty, combined with supervised clinical rotations. Part I concludes with the Part I professional examination.
Advanced clinical postings, independent study and an original research dissertation supervised within the faculty.
Candidates who pass the Part II examination and successfully defend their dissertation are admitted as Fellows of the Nigerian College of Optometrists (FNCO).
